Jonathan Castner

I’ve been working on a series of interviews called Actually Ashley… and my first guest/victim/guinea pig was Jonathan Castner, a storyteller and photographer based in Denver Colorado.

This is really an exercise in sharing cool things my friends are doing and an opportunity for me to update my understanding of their careers.

Worst case scenario, no one watches and I’ve learned how to use StreamYard and YouTube’s Creator Studio. Best case is that you learn what they do and when it makes sense maybe even get a chance to work with them.

BONUS: Jonathan is one of the original humans that helped me found Moonshots & Hand Grenades, a networking meetup based mostly at the City Park Golf Course on the second Monday of every month.

PS Thank you Charlie Walling for helping me come up with a name Actually Ashley… This will be fun!

About Jonathan Castner

Jonathan tells the human story of your business.

As a commercial and editorial photographer / videographer, he specializes in producing images in both still and video form that inspire, engage and motivate the viewer to produce both an emotional and intellectual connection with the subject be it a person or a business.

His photography is about changing how people see the world around them. It is also about communicating information that builds bridges of connection between people. When he photographs his subjects, he validates their stories, their lives and by extension reaffirm their fundamental worth and dignity. This involves a delicate exchange of trust and it is a ballet that can be transformative for both parties.

Photography and story-telling in particular is a sacred gift, both to the subjects and to the audience who would receive the wisdom and truth contained in the story. When he photographs or build multimedia stories, he acts as an interpreter of experience. Ideally, these photographs and stories transport people beyond the boundaries of their lives and can put people in touch with the fundamental truths of human existence in new and profound ways. What an idealist!

His work has been seen in numerous newspapers and magazines around the world including: The Wall Street Journal, The London Times, Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. Past commercial clients include: Target, Medtronic, Somalogic, Birko Chemical and the Independent Film Channel.

Jonathan is represented by Zuma Press and he is a member of NPPA, CPA and the Editorial Photographers group.
