Katy Schweigerdt
Katy Schweigerdt is one of those friends that bikes to your neighborhood and casually texts “are you around?”
As a new parent, I’m painfully aware of just how important those pop-in friends are just as much as the plan-a-happy-hour-next-month friends are.
Professionally, Katy has been selling everything from pet food to frozen pizza with various roles in Sales & Category Management for over 15 years in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry. But we all are more than just a job title.
Personally, she’s been in Denver the past 8 years and she regularly supports local businesses and animal welfare causes. She is also active in Spanish language meetups and a proud founding member of The Pledgettes, a community of women to talk about money, make goals and celebrate financial wins. She and her husband Ed have both adopted and fostered pups too.
Recently we caught up and talked about her choice to take a sabbatical, something that she wishes was more normalized in our culture. “It was time for a much-needed break to rest, relax, explore and remind myself of the simple pleasures in life.”
During her time off, she had a multitude of "Ah-Ha" moments from reconnecting with old friends, reading books on her to-be-read pile, and listening to podcasts. She gave herself time and space to hear her "whispers" and really recommends a sabbatical for anyone who has the option. She kindly agreed to share her insights now that she’s returned to work with renewed passion and perspective.
We’ll discuss normalizing breaks in careers, trusting your intuition, finding the courage to do hard things that maybe go against expectations (your own or societial). We’ll also talk reimagining how we view our relationship to work and different outlooks when considering planning for retirement.
