Sam Goodwin
My friend Sam Goodwin is a professional speaker, entrepreneur, and now soon-to-be published author.
Sam co-founded a tech company and NGO in Singapore and is one of the few people who has traveled to all 193 countries in the world. Sam now travels the world sharing his story about embracing uncertainty to smaller groups in intimate leadership retreats as well as keynotes at large corporate conventions.
Sam and I connected at Washington University in St. Louis where we both got our master’s degrees in International Affairs. He went on to get his doctorate from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
Today, we’re going to talk about his book Saving Sam: The True Story of an American’s Disappearance in Syria and His Family’s Extraordinary Fight to Bring Him Home (On Pre-Sale now for a September 2024 Release).
This is an incredible true story of resilience, family, and faith as he was captured and wrongfully imprisoned while on a journey to experience every country in the world. Accused of being a CIA spy, the Syrian regime threatened to hand him over to ISIS for beheading.
Luckily, his determined and loving Midwestern American family somehow managed to coordinate a network of journalists, hostage negotiators, Middle East experts, Russian diplomats, Vatican envoys, and shady mercenaries to bring Sam home. This is exactly as intense as it sounds but Sam is sure to add in some humor for good measure.
From hostage to international speaker, Sam shares his experience in this book (and as an international speaker) to demonstrate how to turn adversities into assets, whether it be in our personal, professional or spiritual lives. In a world where borders may divide us, Sam’s story is a testament to how our shared humanity unites us.
Sam has many mentors that have supported him along the way, including his speaking coach John Blumburg. When looking for a mentor, he encourages people to find a good listener and keep networking until you find the right people in your corner to help you stay focused and get where you want to go. He’ll also share how creativity, curiosity, and persistence has helped him in this journey.
Need a boost of inspiration? Sam has you covered! Join us for all this and more on Monday, July 8th at 11am MST/1pm EST or catch the replay below!
